The Time of Our Lives!

Posted: July 8, 2009 at 3:22 pm

On Tuesday, we started off our day by going to an English Immersion school. We did all four dramas and Pastor Dave gave a short lesson on American history, Jared Pate gave his testimony, and Kim Dufrene explained the dramas and shared her testimony as well. It was really neat to share with them a little about our culture and why God brought us here to DR. For lunch, we went to an authentic Domincan sandwich shop which was quite an experience. The place was too small for us to eat inside so we enjoyed our tasty sandwiches and fruit flavored milk shakes in the van. Next, we went to the market where we were able to use our pesos to buy souvenirs for our family, friends and supporters. We really enjoyed shopping and bargaining. Then we came home for a quick dinner and went to our last outreach of the night which was one of my favorites so far! There were lots of kids at this outreach, so we got the chance to play with and love on them. After the dramas, performances by the local christian music artists, and Josh Kotter and Rob Verdi’s testimonies, many people raised their hand for salvation. We even had the opportunity to pray for a sweet little girl who was deaf and mute. She was so excited to dance with us and her mother really appreciated our prayers. Only a few more days to experience this wonderful place!!!! -Jordan Aliff

Almost Famous!

On Monday, we were filmed at a local TV station for a national TV program. Pastor Dave was interviewed about what God is doing in our church specifically through missions and youth. I was given the opportunity to share my testimony which was a once in a lifetime experience! Our team then performed a drama on the show which went really well. For lunch we ate Dominican pizza and celebrated Josh Kotter’s birthday with an authentic Dominican birthday cake. Later we visited an English Immersion school and not only did we share our dramas and testimonies but they also put together a presentation for us about America. Their performance was followed by a presentation from Eric Dill on American history. Then we revisited the first English Immersion school that we went to last week, where we had the opportunity to share our dramas and testimonies with five different classrooms. The students were very welcoming and responsive to us. We are so excited about what God has planned for us for our last few days here in DR! -Michaela Faber

Municipal Police

On Sunday morning we went to one of the headquarters for the Dominican Republic Municipal Police. We were welcomed with a ceremonial demonstration in our honor. Each team member was presented with an official hat and t-shirt of the municipal police force.  Now each of us can be a liason between the United States and the Dominican Republic. Also Pastor Dave and I were appointed as majors in their police force. This was an incredible moment! The General of the Municipal Police (who is appointed by the President) was so excited about us being there that he planned to attend another outreach.  Sunday evening we did a community outreach. The activity planned was watching a movie to relate it to God. We had a large attendance in which the audience was captivated by our message.  Kelli Gremillion and Kristen Pelligrin spoke about the movie and several people gave their lives to Christ! -Joe Downs (Mandeville Police Officer)

Happy 4th Of July!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!! We hope everyone had a great day because we certainly did!! This morning we went to the Dominican Olympic Training Center. We spent time with young baseball players. The team did two dramas and we shared the Gospel with the boys and their coaches. Today, we had the opportunity to finally take a Siesta. (PRAISE THE LORD!! We really needed it!)  Later, we went to a local church for their youth service. They had an awesome rap group perform and we performed two dramas. Katelin and Eric shared their testimonies and Patrick preached a powerful message on the prodigal son. Next we went to another church to worship together with some students from a youth pastor school. It was amazing and refreshing to participate in a completely Spanish worship service! Finally, before we headed home we made a stop at an authentic Dominican Republic ice cream place called Bon! Needless to say it wasn’t a typical 4th of July for us but we enjoyed every second of it! -Holly Manders

El Segundo Dia – The Second Day

Posted: July 3, 2009 at 11:23 pm

Amazing things are happening here in the Dominican Republic!!  Today was another encouraging and exciting day for our team.  This morning after a quick breakfast and time of seeking God and prayer, we headed out to a school where older college students learn to speak English.  We spent all of our time connecting with the students, performing the “Everything” drama, sharing our testimonies, and sharing a bit about the American culture. Our next stop today was at an Olympic training center.  Many of these athletes travel the world to compete in powerlifting competitions. We were able to perform dramas and received a great response from the athletes. After sharing the Gospel at the training center, our final stop was at an outreach in the streets of the Dominican Republic tonight. The outreach was amazing and truly powerful! We worked with a local pastor and his wife who just began a church in this neighborhood.  Jared Pate and Kristen Pellegrin shared their testimonies. After a great day of outreach, we returned to our hostel where we are resting up for tomorrow’s adventures! ~Kelli Gremillion

Our First Day!

Posted: July 3, 2009 at 10:29 pm

Today was an amazing day. Words can not even explain the things that God had prepared for us. As we began our morning devotions and gathered as a team to pray before we left the house, God prepared our hearts with love for His people of Dominican Republic.  We started the day out with a wonderful tour of the beautiful country of Dominican Republic. We learned some great history and background of the people, culture, and special events that took place here. Pastor C took us to see some great monuments and museums where the people of his country once lived and served. As we continued with our day we got to go to a school where they were hosting a vacation bible school for children in the local area. As we entered the building, an overwhelming joy began to sweep throughout the team as these children were so excited to see us. We sang worship songs with the children and did two dramas that made the children and teachers laugh with lots of joy. Afterwards we did a basketball outreach in a local neighborhood with lots of people. We did one drama, Rob Verdi shared his testimony, and Ben Genard preached.  It was an awesome time connecting with the people and we saw several people receive Christ! ~ Katelin Jumonville

Safe Arrival!

After a long day of traveling I am happy to announce we have arrived at the Dominican Republic safe, sound, and slightly sleep deprived.  The pastor we are serving and his crew greeted us with open arms. We are excited about what God is going to do during our time here together and expecting great things! Tomorrow we will see the city and continue to prepare for a lot of outreach and evangelism. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we minister Christ’s love. We will keep you updated. -Pastor Dave Madden
